A WIRRAL soldier was decorated with campaign medals after being among the last British troops in Iraq.
Private Nicola Anson, 24, of the 1 Logistic Support Regiment, based in Germany, spent six months in Iraq and Kuwait as part of 20th Armoured Brigade.
The brigade, known as the “Iron Fist”, was initially deployed at the start of the Iraq war and – six years later – was deployed again as the last British brigade to serve in Iraq.
The troops’ final role was to escort the last military convoys across the Iraqi border and continue to train members of the Iraqi army.
Pte Anson, who is an ex-Hilbre high school pupil whose parents live in Moreton, said she was happy to be home.
She said: “It is great to be back and I am very pleased to receive this medal.
“Now I am just looking forward to spending some time with my family.”
