NEW Brighton’s Telegraph Inn has been named Wirral CAMRA Pub of the Year.
The hostelry scooped the award on Saturday night after the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) applauded owner Geoffrey Rees, and manageresses, Anna-Maria Nelson and Karen Dewhurst for their constant rotation of unusual ales and their commitment to serving quality beers – with the right size head, at the right temperature.
Anna-Maria told the News: “We like to turn over and change beers constantly so our customers get different ales to try all the time.
“With real ales, there are so many different flavours to choose from, and we like to have a large variety.”
At the weekend, the pub organised a beer festival in their grounds, offering 26 unique brews to accompany live music, and the very obliging sunshine.
And according to Anna-Maria, the top tipple from the rainbow of titles on offer is Roosters Elderflower, a fruity beer that proved immensely popular.
Anna-Maria added: “It’s recognition for all our hard work.
“We love the real ale side of things, they’re quite different from other drinkers, gentler somehow and they don’t get rotten drunk.
“They take it seriously and so take their time with the beers.
“They’re just nice people and it’s the only growth part of the industry, so it seems the way to go.”
The Telegraph Inn can be found on Mount Pleasant Road, New Brighton.
