New Brighton Lifeboat called out to two rescues over Bank Holiday weekend

NEW Brighton Lifeboat crews were called into action twice over the Bank Holiday.

At 8.30pm on Sunday, New Brighton hovercraft rescued a man in his 20s who was cut off by the tide just off Portland slipway.

The man had been taking photographs and was knee deep in water after failing to realise the tide had come in behind him.

On Monday lunchtime the inshore lifeboat was called out to rescue the crew of a stricken fishing boat which had broken down south of Burbo Bank windfarm.

Lifeboat volunteers towed the boat back to New Brighton.

Cliff Downing, lifeboat operations manager said: “This bank holiday weekend was yet another busy one for our station – so far this year our volunteer crews have carried out 14 rescues.

“When the weather is good many of us want to go and enjoy ourselves around the Wirral coast line but it is vital to make sure you do so safely. Always check the tides before walking out on the sandbanks and make sure someone knows where you are going.”
