Ex-soldier accused of injuring his baby son was allegedly ‘hyped up’ afterwards

When he asked the mother if she was prepared for this, she said: “I’m prepared for anything with him because he’s my son.”

Defending, Nicholas Johnson, QC, said Hodkinson was “quite immature for his age” and the couple would often bicker, sometimes having an argument by text message while still in the same room.

Doubts about the baby’s paternity had also caused the couple to split up before being reunited again.

Mr Johnson said that, contrary to the mother’s police statements, Hodkinson was a proud father and “excited” by the arrival of the baby.

Hodkinson denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent and inflicting grievous bodily harm between August 3 and 9 last year.
