THE ‘SAVE LISCARD’ campaign launched last month by the town’s shopkeepers is already making an impact.
The campaign urging people to use their local shops or lose them has attracted waves of attention from the public and the council since it started.
‘Save Liscard’ leader Terry Hunter, owner of Bargain Hunters, Seaview Road, will meet with Jim Fitzhenry, chair of Liscard Traders, and an officer from Wallasey Town Hall on Friday morning to see if Wirral Borough Council can help save the town which is struggling to survive.
Mr Hunter, 48, of Massey Park, Wallasey, said: “Hundreds of posters urging people to ‘Save Liscard’ cover the windows of the area’s remaining shops.
“The idea of this is to get the people who live in Liscard to use the shops in Liscard.
“I have watched businesses close one by one over the years and last month the time to take action arrived.
“I’ve spoken to businesses, some of which are closing, some are on the brink of closure and others who say the amount of custom they are getting is depressing – we all think ‘Save Liscard’ may help revive us.
“Getting the council on board could also be a major turning point and may help us get lower rents and attract bigger businesses into the area.
“I have had lots of people calling me and coming into my shop saying they’ve seen our posters and want to help us – this is very encouraging!”
Liscard councillor Leah Fraser said: “I have noticed a lot more traders have got involved in the ‘Save Liscard’ campaign over the last week.
“Liscard has got some great shops and if we use them we could save them.
“Anything that can be done to raise awareness of this and help the town is wonderful.”
