Witness appeal after vicious attack in Birkenhead

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault in a Birkenhead car park in which a man was left unconscious.

The 49-year-old local man was walking home when he was attacked by a number of people in the car park between Borough Road East and Wilbraham Street, near to Central roundabout, at about 4.4am on Saturday, September 20.

He was subjected to a sustained attack leaving him unconscious and with a badly broken jaw. His injuries were consistent with him being repeatedly punched and kicked.

It is believed a number of people were in the area at the time of the assault and may have seen the attack.

Police are especially keen to trace a man who was seen near to the victim immediately after the assault.

He is described as white with a shaven head, in his late 30s/early 40s, about 6ft tall and of skinny build, wearing thin, black rectangular glasses, a beige bomber jacket, a purple and white checked shirt and blue jeans.

He spoke with a local accent.

Anyone with information should call Merseyside Police on 777 2265 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111
