Appeal after assault at Liscard restuarant which left woman blind in one eye

THREE men are being sought by police in connection with an assault at a Liscard restaurant which left a woman blind in one eye.

The 36-year-old and her male friend, also 36, were in La Gondala restaurant in Liscard Crescent at around 12.20am on May 20 when three men entered.

The men started chatting with the victim before an argument broke out and one of the men began throwing glasses and eventually a coffee machine at the woman.

She has been left permanently blind in one eye and has a facial scar. Her friend received a severe cut to the back of his head when he tried to shield her from the glasses.

Det Con Matt Smith said: “This is a particularly serious assault which has left one woman disabled for life.

“We know the men we want to speak to in connection with this incident were at the Oak pub prior to the assault from around 10pm.

“We would urge anyone who was in the Oak or La Gondola on that night, or anyone who recognises them, to come forward and make contact.”

The first man was white, in his mid-20s, tall with short dark hair and wearing a McKenzie t-shirt, shorts and trainers.

The second man is white, in his mid-20s, of medium build with short, cropped hair and was wearing a black t-shirt, shorts, trainers and had sunglasses on his head.

The third offender is also white and in his mid-20s, large build, around 6ft 3 tall and was wearing a blue and white checked shirt, three-quarter length shorts and trainers.

One of the CCTV images from the restaurant also shows a woman who arrived with one of the men.

She is not thought to have been present during the assault but officers are also keen to trace her.

Anyone who recognises the three men and woman should call 777 2247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
