Police act to crack Christmas crime

WITH the festive period approaching and shopping in full swing, police are urging people not to let car thieves ruin their Christmas.

Each year the number of thefts from parked cars and other vehicles increases, with newly-bought presents a key target for thieves.

Police officers, including community support officers, crime reduction officers and the Special Constabulary, will be targeting shopping areas and hotspots for car crime in Wirral, handing out crime prevention advice.

Acting Chief Inspector Mick Blease said: “By following simple steps, such as removing items from view, and not making yourself an easy target by putting presents in the car and leaving it again, we can reduce the likelihood of becoming a car crime victim.

“If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, call Merseyside Police on 709 6010.

“Even if you are only going to be a couple of minutes, take your bag and valuables with you. Make sure you always lock you car, check the doors and the boot before you walk away.”

Anyone who has information call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
