Appeal over Liscard restaurant assault which left woman blind in one eye

POLICE are appealing for information about an assault at a Liscard restaurant which left a woman blind in one eye.

The incident took place in La Gondola restaurant on Liscard Crescent at around 12.20am on May 20 this year.

A 36-year-old woman and her 36-year-old male friend were in the restaurant when three men entered. The men started chatting with the victim before an argument broke out and one of the men began throwing glasses and eventually a coffee machine at the woman.

Her friend was also injured when he tried to shield her from the glasses.

The woman has been left permanently blind in one eye and has a facial scar. The man received a severe cut to the back of the head.

The first man is described as white, mid 20s, short dark hair, tall and was wearing a McKenzie t-shirt, shorts and trainers. The second man is white, mid 20s, medium build, short cropped dark hair, 5ft 7-8" tall and was wearing a black t-shirt, shorts, trainers and had sunglasses on his head.

The third offender is a white man, mid 20s, large build, 6ft 3" tall and was wearing a blue and white checked shirt, 3/4 length shorts and trainers.

A CCTV image also shows a woman who arrived at the restaurant with one of the men. She is not thought to have been present during the assault, but officers are keen to trace her.

Detective Constable Matt Smith said: "This is a particularly serious assault, which has left one woman disabled for life.

"We know the men we want to speak to in connection with this incident were at The Oak public house prior to the assault from around 10pm. We would urge anyone who was in The Oak, or La Gondola on that night to come forward and make contact."

Anyone with information should contact Merseyside Police on 777 2247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
