Hundreds turn out across Wirral to pay silent tribute at Remembrance Day services

HUNDREDS of people across Wirral braved the cold and wind to honour those who fell during World War One, at remembrance services throughout the borough.

A poignant minute’s silence was held at 16 locations, to mark the 90th anniversary of the signing of the armistice agreement in 1918.

The biggest event was held at the cenotaph in Hamilton Square, attended by MP Frank Field and other dignitaries.

Young and old joined to pay their respects and the Salvation Army band kept spirits up in the face of biting cold.

A fly-past was organised and the public was joined by Sea Cadets and the Territorial Army, as well as veterans of the many campaigns that have followed World War One.

The occasion was also marked in Bebington, Bromborough, West Kirby, Heswall, Bidston, Moreton, New Brighton, Prenton, Upton, Thornton Hough, Port Sunlight, Wallasey, Willaston and Rock Ferry.
