Company fined £350 over illegal skip in Egremont

A COMPANY that failed to apply for a permit to place a skip on a road in Egremont has been fined £350.

Angel Skips Limited pleaded guilty to the offence on November 4 for failing to apply for a permit to place the skip on the highway, failing to provide reflectors and failing to display operator’s details on the side of the skip.

The company was ordered to pay £400 costs together with a £15 victim surcharge.

Enforcement officers from Wirral Council reported the skip, which was placed on the carriage way of Kinglake Road, Egremont on July 8 2008.

Angel Skips had previously been warned and issued with information about the placement of skips but had failed to comply.

Skip companies are required to acquire a permit for the placing of skips and to let Wirral Council know when and where they plan to place them.

Wirral’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Transport Services, Councillor Jean Quinn said, “Regulations exist to ensure that skips are placed in appropriate locations to protect the safety of road users and pedestrians.”

Information about the requirements for the placing of skips on the highway within Wirral can be found on Wirral Council’s website at www.wirral.gov.uk
