Whole of Wirral went pink to raise thousands of pounds to help beat breast cancer

THE colour pink flooded through Wirral last week to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

Schools, hospitals and businesses donned themselves in the bright colour for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The In the Pink day inspired thousands of people and raised thousands of pounds for breast cancer charities.

The 650-strong workforce at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology raised funds for both the hospital charity and the national organisation Breast Cancer Care by adopting the pink dress code and taking part in fun charity events.

There was also an unveiling of an unusual collection of artwork at the hospital, inspired by experiences of breast cancer.

Pupils and staff at St Mary’s College, Wallasey, raised £700 for the initiative.

Biology teacher Sandra Nettleton led the school fundraising by selling pink pencils, pens, hair accessories, diaries, bangles, pink sweets and lots of other pink goods.

She said: “It took the school by storm and the amazing thing is that boys as well as girls were just as involved.

“Breast cancer touches so many people’s lives – I bet nearly everybody knows someone who has suffered from it, so days like this one are very important.”
