Wirral Council joins in project to reduce housing benefit fraud

WIRRAL Council has been selected to take part in a national pilot project to reduce housing benefit fraud.

The Post Office project will see selected claimants asked to submit their claim review form at participating branches and evidence to confirm their circumstances.

Counter staff will check the documents and make copies to return to Wirral Council.

Malcolm Flanagan, the council’s head of revenues, benefits and customer services, said: “This pilot has the potential to offer customers more choice in how they access our services.

“Hopefully, it will make it easier for people to let us know if their circumstances have changed.”

The pilot is running at post offices in Birkenhead, Rock Ferry, Tranmere, Prenton, Upton, Greasby, Arrowe Park, Bromborough, Bebington, Eastham and Thornton Hough.
