MP's Civil Partnership
WALLASEY MP Angela Eagle has become the first female parliamentarian to tie the knot in a civil partnership.
The treasury minister and Labour MP made history on Saturday after “marrying” her partner of 18 years, BT engineer Maria Exall, at Southwark register offices in South London.
Dressed in a white tailored jacket and black trousers, Ms Eagle, 47, the only openly gay woman in the House of Commons, had 50-plus guests.
Ms Eagle said she was “delighted” to be entering into a union made possible by the Labour government’s Civil Partnerships Act of 2004, which she was involved in bringing in.
Her twin sister, Maria Eagle, MP for Garston, said: “It’s been great. Everyone was very pleased and they are very much in love.”
