Wallasey woman earns award for egg craft skills

A WALLASEY woman has been awarded a top prize for her skills in egg craft.

Ellie Watts entered her uniquely designed egg at the Eggcrafters’ Guild of Great Britain’s autumn convention and, after fighting off competition from 130 other designers, took home the title for Best in Show.

The eggs, which are usually those of either ostriches or geese, ranged from designs based around mythical fairy scenes to Ellie’s unusual egg based on an Anglo-Saxon helmet unearthed in 1939.

Years after being inspired by a decorative egg given to her as a gift, Ellie ordered a kit off the internet and later began attending workshops where different techniques were taught.

Ellie, a secretary at the NHS, said: “ I hope that my success will result in more people getting involved in the hobby, because eggs are not just for eating!”
