WIRRAL News reporter Carrie Catterall likes a challenge - and following her exploits in the Wirral Egg Run earlier this year, she’s setting her sights on the Great North Run!
Carrie is the only person from Wirral running the half marathon for the charity Childflight and will join thousands of runners taking part.
ChildFlight is a registered children’s charity established in 1987 which specialises in providing flights and holidays for sick and disadvantaged children of all ages.
Examples of children helped by the charity include those who require medical treatment abroad, have missed out on childhood experiences due to illness or who are socially deserving.
The charity has provided Florida holidays for 487 children with potentially life threatening illnesses and their families.
Last year Childflight runners raised £7,059.43 by running the 13.1 mile Great North Run from Newcastle Upon Tyne to South Shields.
Carrie said: “I’m not the best runner so it is going to be hard but I think if I do my training properly I should be ok.
“I haven’t set myself such a big challenge in years but it’s for a great cause.”
Childflight chairman Steve Sefton said: “I wish I could do it. It’s a cracking event for those into running - I stop at 10k!”
Wirral co-ordinator for the charity, Norma Clarke, of Greasby, said: “We thank the people who have supported us in the past, they’ve been absolutely fantastic and I look forward to the public supporting Carrie on her challenge in the Great North Run.”
