Three hundred people will abseil down Leasowe Lighthouse for charity

THE biggest abseil of Leasowe lighthouse takes place on Saturday.

More than 300 people will descend from the veranda of the lighthouse using one of three ropes.

The frequency works out at one every 10 minutes.

Most of the participants are raising funds for a wide range of charities through their own sponsors.

The organisation and timing is undertaken by the Friends of Leasowe Lighthouse.

Also being organised by the friends’ group is the annual International Amateur Radio Lightship and Lighthouse event of August 16-17. Public viewing is on the Sunday from 1-4pm when visitors can hear contacts being made with “radio hams” all over the world. Then, on September 14, is National Heritage Weekend at the lighthouse.

Leasowe lighthouse is open on the first and third Sundays in the month until the end of September from 1-4pm.
