Moreton husband-poisoner loses appeal

THE Moreton husband-poisoner jailed for 30 years after leaving her spouse deaf and blind has lost an appeal to reduce her sentence .

Kate Knight, 28 was convicted in April of attempting to murder Lee Knight by lacing his food with ethylene glycol, or anti-freeze.

She has had an appeal to reduce her sentence rejected by Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips, Mr Justice Goldring and Mr Justice Plender at the Court of Appeal.

Mr Knight was left with brain damage and kidney failure after the poisoning in April 2005.

A jury a Stafford Crown Court convicted Kate Knight, who gave a Garrick Avenue, Moreton address, of attempted murder.

The court was told she had planned to use the £130,000 death benefit from her husband’s employer, JCB in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, to pay off debts after forging his signature for two secret loans valued at £17,000.

The jury heard Knight used internet search engine Google to find a method of killing, before finally settling on anti-freeze.

Knight administered the poison in red wine and an Indian takeaway on the couple’s wedding anniversary.
