STUDENTS from Wirral Met College have entered a competition which could see them jet off to Brazil.
The enterprise competition called “Destination Rio” is being run by the University of Chester.
Wirral Met’s Hotel Front Office/Reception students are hoping to turn £10 into £6,200 by March next year. And if they reach that goal they will be sent to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Rio de Janeiro.
In their first challenge the team held an ‘Auction of Talents and Promises’ on November 13 in The Birches Restaurant, Conway Park Campus, as part of Global Entrepreneurship week.
The event raised more than £1,000 and the students won an award from The University of Chester for the most profit made in 48 hours. The university team who came second raised £400.
More than 50 “talents and promises” were on offer, ranging from dance lessons to pantomime tickets, reflexology sessions to an airport taxi ride.
Sue Higginson, College Principal and Chief Executive, said: “I was impressed with the initiative and approach of our students and staff in this.”
Bill Stothart, Vice Principal, added: “Fantastic result, well done to the team, that’s only the first step, I’d like to see them go all the way to Brazil next year!”
The students are now getting ready for the next challenge.
