Wirral hospice passes care watchdog’s inspection with clean bill of health

A WIRRAL hospice was given a clean bill of health by care watchdogs.

Management at Wirral Hospice St John’s say the result reflects the high quality of service they provide at the facility.

Officials from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) made its second unannounced visit to the hospice on Friday, January 18.

The hospice was measured against five of the CQC’s 16 essential standards of care:

Consent to care and treatment

Care and welfare of people who use services

Safeguarding people who use the service from abuse

Staffing and Complaints

Eleven months after its previous inspection, officials found all five aspects that the hospice was assessed against met the required standards with no recommendations for improvements – which is the highest rating an organisation can receive.

The assessment followed rigorous interviews with patients, families and staff which ensured the CQC had all the information it needed to compile its report on how the hospice cares for and treats patients.

The hospice also met all the standards at the previous inspection in Jan 2012.

Dawn Porter, clinical services manager, said: “We are once again delighted with the outcome from the CQC’s inspection report.

“It highlights staff dedication and quality of service we provide in caring for patients, carers and families.”

In June 2013, the charity celebrates its 30th anniversary of caring for the people in Wirral.
