MAJOR improvement works are underway in Wirral Country Park.
Cheshire County Council’s countryside management service is carrying out tree work, including thinning some of the large sycamores in the ravine near to Neston’s Millennium Bridge to allow more light into the area.
The work also involves drainage improvements, path surfacing and clearing encroaching trees and bushes from footpaths to improve sight-lines and allow more light to reach plants.
Countryside Ranger Richard Snow said: “The tree work will benefit flowering plants, which will in turn attract more insects and birds to the area, enhancing the wildlife value of the ravine.
“It will also open up the views, which will help to deter antisocial behaviour and provide a safe environment for park users and local residents.”
Material removed during the works will be recycled and reused on site to create new benches and tables.
The scheme is the latest in a series of improvements which have included footpath and cycle way resurfacing, new way-marker posts and the creation of a flower area close to the centre of Neston.
