Council to crack down on dog fouling in Neston and Parkgate

DOG fouling hot spots in Neston and Parkgate are being targeted with replacement bins and pledges of regular clean-ups and patrols.

Ellesmere Port and Neston Council says 69 new and replacement bins will be set up towards the end of September across 53 sites in the borough, 31 of which are brand new locations.

The list of locations is based on requests from members of the public and information provided by local councillors.

Each area will have new lockable metal bins designed to withstand vandalism.

They will be emptied weekly or twice weekly depending on the site.

Parkgate councillor Nils Anderson said: “This is something I called for and so I fully support it.

“There are always a few people who are not as considerate as they should be and hopefully these replacement dog bins should raise awareness and make it easier for people to do what they are supposed to do.”

The scheme is expected to cost £3,000 in 2008/9 and £10,000 in 2009/10 - including the cost of emptying the new bins.

Leader, of Ellesmere Port and Neston Council, Cllr Justin Madders, said: “Dog fouling is not just an anti-social nuisance but also a public health issue.

“Thankfully, many dog owners are responsible but there are still a few who need reminding about their social responsibility – bag it and bin it.

“I’m pleased that we are able to locate many of these bins in new locations requested by residents.”

In Neston bin locations include Drake Road, Liverpool Road, Raby Park Road, West Vale and Talbot Avenue. In Parkgate bins will be at Wood Lane and Earl Drive.
