THE reigning North West Lawn Mower Racing champion will continue his fight to retain the title at the South Wirral Country Fair.
Mark Rostron, who finished top of the table last season, is hoping he is still a cut above the rest when he competes at the show at Backwood Hall, Boathouse Lane, Parkgate.
The 18-year-old already has one win under his belt this season and, despite the tough competition he faces, believes he could have more success at the Wirral show.
Mark said: “I’m in with a good shot. There are some tough competitors but my aim this season is to win the North West title again.”
Capable of reaching 50mph, the machines are built to withstand the dirt track conditions and are a world away from your average lawn mowers.
The race returns to the Wirral show after a successful debut in 2007.
Show organiser Kelvin Pye, from the Garden Festivals Company, believes that the unusual motor sport will attract big crowds at the Wirral fair.
He said: “Anyone who watched it last year will have realised that it is great fun and we are delighted to be bringing it back.”
The 13th South Wirral Garden and Country Fair begins on May 3 for three days. Other highlights include pig and sheep racing, falconry, live music, helicopter rides and much more – call 01492 523410 for ticket details.
