A RARE plant at Ness Gardens is flowering for the first time in ten years.
The Puya Alpestris has large clump-like rosettes of very prickly, grass-like leaves that grow for five to 10 years before exploding into flower.
The flower, also called the 'Sapphire Tower', can grow 1.5 tall, bearing metallic teal-blue flowers with bright yellow anthers.
