Council promises to clean up Wirral Country Park bins

CHESHIRE County Council has apologised after visitors complained Wirral Country Park was being overrun by dog waste.

Visitors hoping to relax and enjoy the scenery say they are being put off by the sight of used dog waste bags littered around the bins provided at entrances to the park.

They say the bins are left overflowing with bags of waste, causing them to fall to the ground and spread along footpaths.

One regular visitor took photographs showing the Station Road entrance to the park in Neston, revealing the neglect.

The photographer, who asked to remain anonymous, says the scene is similar at other bins in the area.

The dog waste bins are the responsibility of Cheshire County Council unlike the actual park bins, which are looked after by Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council and residents say are emptied regularly.

Another man who regularly walks their dog around the park, who asked not to be named, told the News: “The area around the bins is disgusting.

“We spoke to a waste collector on the park, who worked for the borough council.

“He told us that the ones at the entrance are not his responsibility and the county council have contracted them out.

“It‘s ridiculous that we are encouraged to pick up the waste to put in these bins but the council can’t be bothered to collect it.”

Another resident added: “The bin lids are made of steel and quite heavy so are difficult for shorter or more fragile people to lift.

“We have made suggestions to change them but have had no response to that either.”

A spokesman for Cheshire County Council said: “We are aware of the situation.

“We apologise and are doing our best to resolve it.”
