Light aircraft crashes on Hoylake beach prompting rescue operation

A DRAMATIC light aircraft crash landing prompted a rescue operation on Hoylake beach.

The Ikarus C42 microlight, registered to West Lancashire Microlight School, in Ince Blundell, landed on the foreshore at around 6.30pm yesterday, not far from the new RNLI station.

Deputy operations manager John Curry said: “We were having a meeting, looked out and saw a plane.

“That’s not so unusual, but it was nose-down so our immediate concern was someone had been injured or there could be a fire.

“We went out with the tractor and firefighting equipment and contacted the coastguard, who indicated to us the pilot was OK.”

The 2004-built aircraft is used on the school’s website as their fixed-wing aircraft, offering “competitive price and performance”.

Members of the flight school were able to remove its wings, which allowed it to be brought back through the Mersey tunnel.
