Holylake RNLI comes to rescue of prawn ship in Mersey

LIFEBOAT crews went to the rescue of a Morecambe Bay prawn ship which got into difficulties at the mouth of the Mersey.

The 38ft fishing vessel suffered engine problems on Saturday morning while RNLI Hoylake lifeboat was on a training exercise.

Originally New Brighton Lifeboat had been launched and had the vessel under tow, but because of the size of the boat the Lady of Hilbre was sent out as well.

Coxswain Dave Whiteley took the boat alongside and crew members James and Daniel Whiteley went aboard to connect a tow rope to the vessel.

A crew member from the New Brighton vessel also assisted with towing it into Liverpool Marina.
