Hoylake Parade Community Centre celebrates centenary

Originally a school, the Hoyle Road building provided education for children in Hoylake for over 70 years.

Hoylake Parade School was founded in the same year that the foundation of Hoylake Cottage Hospital was laid. The year also saw the opening of Meols Parade Gardens.

It was saved from demolition in 1989 and turned into a thriving community centre managed by volunteers.

An exhibition about the building’s 100 years is open daily from 10.30am to 3.30pm and local schools will be using a refurbished Victorian/Edwardian classroom as part of their history lessons.

Historian Heather Chapman will be giving an illustrated talk about the history of the Parade School on Friday (June 26) from 7.30-8.30pm.

The celebrations conclude with a “Casino Night” for current user groups on Sunday, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 (including a buffet), and are available from the centre on 632 2289 or by e-mailing paradecentenary@btinternet.com Tickets for the reunion are £10 from Pat Ireland on 632 6827.
