PUPILS and staff from a Wirral special school enjoyed the trip of a lifetime when they travelled to South Africa.
Six pupils, two staff and the principal, Gareth Williams, from West Kirby Residential School made the trip as part of their Education programme, working with two schools in South Africa.
Mr Williams said: “It was a dream come true for all of us, an amazing experience that will live long in the memory and will help the whole school to better understand the world we live in, not only the six young people that travelled.”
The group experienced working in and out of school with young people from the townships; they also planted trees to leave their ‘footprints’ in Africa. The pupils stayed with a South African family.
On their return, Wirral Mayor Cllr Adrian Jones invited them to Wallasey Town Hall, where they spoke about the trip.
Next July, 2010, a group of young South Africans will be coming over to West Kirby and spending time with pupils and staff learning more about our culture.
