West Kirby karting ace follows in Lewis Hamilton’s footsteps

A YOUNG karting ace from West Kirby has been following in the footsteps of Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton since he turned eight.

Scott Rixon, 13, has been winning awards for over five years and last weekend won the Grosvenor Cup Championship at Hooton Park race circuit.

He raced in the Junior Formula Blue Series and brought home the trophy after winning all the four races of the day, at the same time breaking the lap record.

The young talent moved into the Junior category at the beginning of this year where his success as a front running competitor continued with a race win at the first meeting.

His success continued through the season as he went on to win the NKRA Northern Minimax Championship and finish fifth overall in the NKRA National finals at Clay Pigeon race circuit in Dorset.

Following his latest success in the series, the Hilbre High School pupil has his sights set on the 2009 season where he hopes to win the NKRA Junior Formula Blue National Championship.

Scott said: “My passion for racing goes far beyond a hobby and my ambition is to be a professional racing driver.”

Scott’s passion for karting was inspired by watching his father Graham, a former racing driver and now a racing driver instructor.
