Husband charged with murder of Elaine Bailey in Greasby

ROBERT Bailey, 45, has appeared before magistrates charged with the murder of his wife, Elaine Bailey.

Last Wednesday an inquest, held in West Kirby, heard how the Greasby mother-of-three suffered “multiple stab wounds to the head, face and body” in the kitchen of her own home.

Mrs Bailey, 39, was discovered by officers on Thursday September 11, as they attended a siege situation involving her husband in the quiet Locker Park cul-de-sac.

Robert Bailey was charged with her murder on Friday night and appeared at Wirral magistrates’ court on Saturday morning.

Speaking at the opening of Mrs Bailey’s inquest, the Coroner’s officer, Arthur Flowers, said: “She was lying face up on the floor of the kitchen.

“She had sustained multiple stab wounds to the head, face and body, believed to have been caused by a number of sharp pointed instruments, including knives and other kitchen implements.”

The inquest also heard how a neighbour, Glynis Boyle, had been confronted by Bailey as he tried to gain access to her home.

She fled into the back garden with her cordless phone, hid in the bushes and called 999, just as Robert Bailey smashed his way through her front door.

Police officers then arrived on scene and were able to lead her to safety.

Officers were forced to use CS gas to contain Bailey, and he retreated back inside the property and promptly smashed the front window.

Mr Flowers said: “A siege situation then developed.”

This was eventually broken at around 5.30pm when Bailey gave himself up.

He was found to have stabbed himself in the chest, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Arrowe Park Hospital.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

Bailey, 45, of Locker Park, has been remanded in custody to appear before Liverpool Crown Court, charged with murder, on October 9 .

Home Office pathologist Alison Armour determined Elaine Bailey’s cause of death as “multiple stab wounds”.

The inquest was adjourned to an as yet unspecified date.
