Golf challenge raises £13,000 for Hoylake Cottage

A GOLF challenge has raised more than £13,000 for Hoylake Cottage.

Hoylake Cottage trustee Neil Wilson completed six rounds at Caldy Golf Club, walking approximately 30 miles in 18 hours in aid of the centre for older people.

Joining him for a round at different times of the day were footballing legends Ian St John, Ron Yeats and Dave Fairclough.

The three are members of Liverpool FC Former Players’ Association which donated £5,000 in sponsorship.

Also playing with Neil at different times were friends David Laing, John Dennan and John Walker.

Neil said: “It was very strange teeing off just after 4am and sending the ball into the darkness.

“But it was an amazing day because friends kept appearing on the course and walking with me for a couple of holes and there were people waiting for me in the clubhouse later.

“It was only in the fifth round that I started to feel the pressure and the last round was a real challenge - the golf just went to pieces.

“I was exhausted at the end but also elated. I loved the day and would not have missed it for the world.

“I had an amazing reaction from everyone when they heard I was raising money for Hoylake Cottage; the funds are still coming in and I expect to raise well over £13,000.”

The money will go to the appeal for a new day care centre for older people at Hoylake Cottage.
