PEOPLE power has brought playtime back to a Meols park.
Determined parents formed the Friends of Meols Park last autumn after the park’s slide and climbing frame were condemned and ripped up.
After months of fundraising, the group raised £6,700 – with a further £3,000 pledged by Wirral Council.
There was further cause for celebration this month when the first piece of new equipment -– a “multi-play” unit – was installed.
Secretary Roy Shuttleworth said: “Friday, June 13, was a lucky day for the children of Meols as it was the day when the new play equipment was installed.
“More than 200 parents and children came along on the Saturday to celebrate the installation. There were free ice creams for and on the day we received donations of £183.
“The weather was kind and everyone brought their own food and drink to picnic in the park – it was a community get-together.”
A team of 10 women from the friends’ group will be abseiling 200feet off the roof of the Royal Liverpool Hospital on Sunday, September 28, to raise money for more play equipment. For more information visit www.friendsofmeolspark.co.uk
