MERSEYSIDE Police today (Thursday) confirmed it is not treating the death of a woman whose body was found in West Kirby Marine Lake on Tuesday as suspicious.
A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday to determine the cause of death and the matter has now been turned over to the coroner.
The body was formally identified by Merseyside Police yesterday, and next of kin informed.
Although authorities have not yet released a name, they have confirmed the deceased was a 68-year-old woman from Bromborough.
Ambulance crews were called to the scene on South Parade at 10.58am after a member or the public noticed a body in the water.
The woman was initially described as white, with blue eyes and chin length grey/blonde hair.
She was wearing black Reebok jogging pants, a black flowery top and a thin red cardigan. A pair of black leather shoes were found nearby which police say could have belonged to the woman.
Updates to follow.
