West Kirby pupils elect school council

ST BRIDGET’S Primary School in West Kirby have held elections last week to select their new School Council.

West Wirral MP Stephen Hesford announced the winners at an assembly.

The day after Wirral residents went to the polls in the local council elections, it was the turn of the pupils to elect representatives to the School Council from their own peers.

The school had been a polling station and so voting booths were left in place for the children to get a taste of what voting in an election is really like.

The School Council at St Bridget’s has been running for several years and holds regular meetings with teachers in which members put forward the views of their fellow pupils, helping to shape the running of the school.

Headteacher Richard Vaughan also asked Mr Hesford to take questions from the newly elected school councillors.

Mr Hesford said: “The children clearly enjoyed themselves and obviously relished being given the opportunity to take part. I think there are lessons here for adults - well done to the school!”
