West Kirby teenager wins top national music award

A SIXTH form student at West Kirby Grammar School has won a top national music award.

Christina Bodenes was awarded the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music accolade for scoring the highest mark in the Grade 8 flute examinations.

The talented 17-year-old was the highest scoring candidate of around 10,000 throughout the country, earning her the £50 cash prize.

Christina, who began flute lessons aged seven, said: “I was confident I had passed the exam but I was really surprised when I found out I had done that well.

“Music is a big part of my life and I really enjoy playing. I’ll spend the money on new sheet music.”

As well as studying for her A-levels, the teenager devotes time to practising daily and rehearsing once a week with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra where she is principal flute.
