West Kirby's Joe set for Countdown tv date

CALCULATORS will be left behind this week as one of Wirral’s brightest teenagers travels to Leeds to play Countdown’s words and numbers game.

Joe Dennis, 14, from Frankby Road, West Kirby, auditioned in December and was selected from hundreds to compete in the programme, which is presented by Des O’Connor and Carol Vorderman.

The Calday Grange Grammar School pupil said: “I have always liked watching Countdown and thought it would be fun to enter.

“We are recording the show this week and my family are coming with me.

“It would be nice if I won but I am really just looking forward to the whole experience.”

Joe’s mum, Barbara, said: “We are all so proud that he’s done it.”

The edition of Countdown featuring Joe will be aired in March.
