WIRRAL’S first regular comedy club is set to open this bank holiday weekend.
Tallulah’s Late Lounge, in New Brighton, is to host the Capital of Comedy event and the opening weekend will include one of the country’s leading comics – and Radio 4 regular – Milton Jones.
Joining him at the waterfront venue, on the Marine Promenade, will be Liverpool Comedian of the Year MC Chris Cairns.
The organisers say this is just the beginning of a flood of leading comics with the likes of Neil Fitzmaurice of Phoenix Nights fame and “Merseyside’s leading scally”, Nige, – aka Keith Carter – all taking to the stage at Tallulah’s.
Marion Thompson, owner of Tallulah’s, said: “We are so excited about welcoming the Capital of Comedy to Tallulah’s.”
It’s not just comedy on offer though when the doors open at 6.30pm, ahead of the 8pm show, as early arrivals will be able to start the evening by enjoying a curry buffet courtesy of Izzy from New Brighton restaurant Magic Spices.
Ms Thompson said: “Our venue is superb here on the New Brighton waterfront and the combination of our tasty curry buffet followed by an evening of side-splitting comedy means we are expecting huge crowds so people should book in advance or come along early.”
Although hosted by Tallulah’s, the comedy club is an expansion of Liverpool’s Capital of Comedy, run by comedy entrepreneur Paula Harrington. These weekend nights at Liverpool’s Slaughterhouse on Fenwick Street regularly feature the very best names from the national comedy circuit as well as plenty of home-grown favourites. Ms Harrington said: “We’re so excited to be opening in Tallulah’s Late Lounge. The success of the Capital of Comedy in Liverpool has been brilliant so an expansion over to the Wirral made perfect sense and Tallulah’s offers the perfect venue.”
The comedy club will run every Friday and Saturday night from Friday, August 28.
