A FORMER Wirral man has been convicted of sexually abusing two young girls.
Ross Adams, formerly known as John Cousins, repeatedly molested one girl, beginning when she was aged six, and abused the other girl when she was aged 14 and then when she was 16.
Adams, 57, formerly of Fishers Lane, Pensby, denied the allegations but following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court has been found guilty of six sexual assault charges.
He has been remanded on bail to await sentence on October 24.
Sophie Smith, prosecuting, told the jury that Adams used to live in Pensby, as did the older girl, and the other victim lived in Moreton. He used to be friendly with the younger girl and bought her gifts.
She said: “This was a way to get close to her so he could target her.”
His behaviour continued until she was eight and she finally confided in a neighbour, and her parents and the police were told.
Adams, who was living in Pensby with his girlfriend, was arrested and denied the allegations.
While he was abusing the first girl, he was also molesting the other victim, said Miss Smith.
She told her mother and her father told Adams to stay away but about a year later, when she was 16, he again befriended her.
He talked to her inappropriately about sexual matters and in June 2006 he gave her a lift to Thurstaston and on the way back he deliberately took a detour to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her.
She kept the incident a secret for almost a year before telling her mother and the police were called.
