Pensby paving is ‘a health hazard’

ELDERLY residents in Pensby claim they face a health hazard by walking to their local post office.

Wirral Council has promised to replace the stretch on Pensby Road, between Rosemead Avenue and Ashley Road, at some point this year but cannot say exactly when.

Keith Wynn, 75, of Greenbank Drive, said: “The pavement is in a disgusting state – huge puddles form in the many potholes when it rains. I’ve been asking the council to repair it for two years.

He said: “People with mobility problems find it difficult. My neighbour struggles to take his wheelchair-bound wife down to the shops where the post office is. They’re both in their 80s. It’s an accident waiting to happen.”

A spokesman for Wirral Council said: “Wirral Council’s highway and footway maintenance is done in accordance with national guidelines. Pavements are inspected every three months and are repaired to national standard.

“This particular stretch of pavement is scheduled to be completely replaced within 2008.”

Anyone who wishes to report a problem with a pavement can contact Streetscene on 606 2004.
