THREE Heswall shops will donate a percentage of their hot drink profits to charity as part of March’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
The Eve Appeal is a charity that funds research into gynaecological cancers, particularly ovarian cancer, and to mark the occasion has launched a campaign called Make Time for the Eve Appeal.
They want people throughout Wirral and the UK to host tea party events and raise funds for a cause that often falls below the radar.
In response, Lingham’s bookshop and cafe in Heswall, Thorntons, Heswall, and Thyme Out cafe in Heswall Hills will each donate a portion of their profits from selling tea, coffee and hot chocolate to the appeal for one week, from March 22.
Heswall resident Gill Robinson is a long time Eve supporter and set the wheels in motion for the businesses to join in.
Gill said: “In the UK, ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cancer affecting women after breast, bowel and lung cancer, yet it has a fairly low profile.
“Its fatality rate is similar to the survival rate for breast cancer, and so funding research into this devastating disease is critical.
“I am very grateful to these local businesses for their support both in helping to raise awareness of the problem, and their financial support.”
Every year more than 7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, 5,000 of whom will die.
