Wirral martial arts students achieve black belt and win European medals

STUDENTS from a Taekwondo club in Wirral are kicking high on success after achieving their black belt and becoming European medal winners.

Eighteen students from the age of eight skilfully gained their first degree level.

The group, who attend clubs in Pensby, Wallasey and Wirral Taekwondo Academy in Bromborough, travelled to Bristol to take their grading under the watchful eye of five eighth degree Taekwondo masters.

Nathan Saunders, 11, was one of the youngest students in the country to gain his second degree, and John Windrum, 19, achieved third degree.

Following on from their success, a team of students competed in the European Taekwondo Championship in Krakow, Poland and brought back three bronze medals. They were Steve Connor, Nathan Saunders and Lewis Hayes. In addition, Anna Williams, 13, became European champion in the patterns division.
