A MARTIAL arts instructor in Wirral is kicking high after gaining his sixth degree black belt in Taekwondo.
Richard Saunders was awarded the qualification in front of 1,500 fellow practitioners at the British Championships in Coventry.
He began training in 1984, aged 15, and has studied the art ever since, during which time he has travelled to Korea and competed in competitions across the globe.
From 1996, Richard has been teaching at Taekwondo Academy in Bromborough and has helped more than 250 students gain their black belt.
Richard, 43, said: “It has been such an honour to achieve this prestigious award. It is not just about ability being a sixth degree, it also means that your dedication and perseverance in helping others progress.”
