£40,000 makeover for St David’s United Reformed Church in Eastham

AN EASTHAM church has a warm glow after a £40,000 makeover.

The old 1950s-fired boiler at St David’s United Reformed Church has been replaced with three gas-fired, high efficiency condensing-boilers. Radiators have been installed in the church and gas-fired radiators have been installed in the community rooms.

The original heating system served both the church and community rooms and left visitors cold in winter.

Last year insulation was added to the building’s walls, roof and windows.

Funding for the improvements came from private donations, The All-churches Trust with a grant of £750, and The Veolia Environmental Trust who gave a grant of £13,500 through the Landfill Communities Fund.

The shortfall has been covered by church funds.

Church secretary Sheila Pugh said: “Memories of the mess and disruption are fading fast, and we are already feeling the benefit.

“Someone recently commented that they had never been so warm here in winter since the buildings had been built.

“It is our hope that all groups using our premises – including the smaller groups who have previously been unable to afford heat for their winter meetings, will now be able to meet in greater comfort.”
