DETECTIVES investigating the street shooting of a Liverpool dad have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.
Wayne Bassnett, 30, originally from Belle Vale, was blasted in the head at point blank range last winter in what is believed to have been a gangland killing.
The keen bodybuilder was found lying in the snow on Pepper Street, in Hale Village, near Speke, after being shot in the early hours of December 22.
He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
His sister, Kellie, gave an emotional interview to the ECHO, days after his death, in which she described him as a “loveable rogue’’. She said: “Everything Wayne did, he did for his kids. They were his aims in life. He was always laughing, the life and soul of the party.
“He never looked down on anybody, but treated them the same. We can’t believe he’s gone.”
Yesterday, Cheshire police revealed they had arrested a 24-year-old man over the murder.
Detectives continued to question him throughout the day.
Police have previously said Mr Bassnett, who moved to Hough Green in recent years, and was described as running a conservatory fitting company, was with someone when he drove to Widnes and have linked the killing with people in Liverpool.
