Clean-up day with the YMCA

BIRKENHEAD YMCA residents and staff did their bit for their neighbourhood by organising a community clean-up day.

The group decided to take action after hearing complaints about the amount of litter near Borough Road.

They used litter pickers and brushes to clear the grassed area adjacent to Shaw Street, filling a skip donated by Major Skip Hire.

YMCA chief executive Nigel Hughes said: “This type of initiative enables our service users to do something really positive for the local community and they get a lot of personal satisfaction from taking part.

“It also gives a sense of community spirit, which is vitally important.”
