Wirral farm help up as model for Europe for combining good agricultural practice with support for wildlife

A WIRRAL farm has been held up as a model for Europe for combining good agricultural practice with support for wildlife.

RSPB experts anticipate that bird numbers at Claremont Farm in Bebington could double as a result of the introduction of wildlife-friendly farming measures.

Farmer Andrew Pimbley secured EU funding for Natural England’s Higher Level Stewardship scheme which enables farmers to halt the loss of biodiversity.

Claremont Farm maintains wide flower-rich verges around fields to sustain insects, which provide summer food for birds and help to keep crop pests at bay.

Andrew has also introduced fallow plots to encourage nesting lapwings.
