Birkenhead man jailed for abusing neighbours

A BIRKENHEAD man was sent to prison for subjecting neighbours to months of verbal abuse, in contravention of an emergency injunction.

David Johnson, of Corporation Road, was jailed for four months after continuing to threaten and abuse those living nearby, in what was described by the court as a “catalogue of harassment”.

The 51-year-old was found to have broken the terms of his injunction on four occasions, and subjected two of his victims to threats of harm.

Wirral Partnership Homes (WPH) applied for the injunction and pursued the matter through the courts.

WPH chief executive, Brian Simpson, said: “WPH ask the court for injunctions in cases where we believe the intervention of the court is necessary.

“If people continue with anti-social behaviour, then we will seek to provide relief to the people affected, even if this means the court is forced to send them to prison.

“This individual subjected his community to what neighbours described as a ‘living hell.’

“We acted swiftly in bringing Johnson before the court and hope that his four-month prison sentence will act as a reminder that WPH will take action against anti-social behaviour in our communities.”

WPH enforcement officer, Samantha Brown added: “I am pleased with the sentence as it both reflects the seriousness of Johnson’s behaviour and will make him realise that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
