Wirral South MP Alison McGovern set for crunch meeting over funding for Bromborough landfill park plan

A CRUNCH meeting on the future of a park plan for the former Bromborough landfill site was taking place today.

Wirral South MP Alison McGovern was due to meet with representatives of the North West Development Agency to find out if the agency, which has been axed by the government, will deliver £2.4m in funding for the project.

The site was to be transformed into a recreational greenspace, with an iconic sculpture to capitalise on Mersey views.

But the proposals were thrown into doubt when it was announced the agency would be wound down and closed in March 2012.

Ms McGovern said: “If they say they’re not going to release the funds after dragging it out for a year I personally will be very angry. This project is so important to Bromborough.”

Unilever bosses are also facing questions from Ms McGovern over plans to axe its final salary pension scheme. She will meet Alan Walters, the firm’s vice president of human resources, this week to question the proposals.
