Work to resurface some of Eastham’s worst road surfaces starts after three-year wait

WORK to resurface some of Eastham’s worst roads finally started last week after three years of delays.

Roads around Eastham Rake have been beset with problems because of its age and the increasing amount of cars using the route.

Residents have complained in a series of letters to the News about the number of potholes in the road surface.

Eastham Councillor Phil Gilchrist said people living nearby had been waiting for three years

“'It's been a long time coming but it's been great to see it done.

“The concrete in Eastham Rake was laid 70 years ago. Much of it was in fair condition but some parts cracked and sank. It was once a lane out into the country, now it serves many housing estates.

“Recently layers of tar had come away creating deep holes.”

Two years ago a section of road had to be dug up for repairs to drains, with other work to replace concrete and put in new kerbs and driveways.

Cllr Gilchrist said: “A lot of jobs had to be done, in stages. Each had its own delays.

“It's been waiting to be done for ages. It’s the kind of job that can't be done when its cold, or wet, so that ruled out winter.

“I’m pleased that the worst roads are being tackled – and I have a new list of jobs I’m pushing to get done!’

He said a further section nearer Bromborough had been marked up for work after complaints from residents and local councillors.
